Mid-way through 2020, it’s clear this year is a big year for humanity. In this moment, as we are socially distant, we have an opportunity to reflect on where we are and where we are heading. We are facing a global pandemic and we are coming to terms with a history of inequity. We are also at the start of hurricane and wildfire season.
The big issues and threats to humanity in the future will be global, and they will require great actions to change our direction and allow future generations to thrive. Climate change is a great threat to humanity with far-reaching consequences for our communities, including sea level rise and increased risk of natural disasters. Climate change requires that we course correct on multiple fronts. We must change the way that we produce energy and consume resources to reduce future greenhouse gas emissions. We must also adapt to the changing climate to address the current risks of natural disasters, drought, and flooding.
At Panorama, overcoming these obstacles and addressing climate change is central to the work that we do every day. In the last year we have:
- Completed environmental documents for more than 700 megawatts of solar energy, including the largest solar project in the United States
- Prepared wildfire mitigation plans to address wildfire management on nearly 1,000,000 acres of land throughout California
- Planned projects at the Salton Sea that will create a domestic supply of lithium to supply the electric vehicle sector, create habitat for wildlife that are threatened by reduced water supply, and control hazardous dust emissions.
- Planned water supply and flood infrastructure improvements to address drought, sea level rise, seismic risk, and flood risk across the Bay Area
