Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority On-Call

Marin County voters passed Measure C in 2020, which established a 17-member Joint Powers Authority to fund and oversee proactive state-of-the -art wildfire prevention and preparedness efforts within the County. Members include several cities and towns, fire protection districts, and community service districts. The MWPA will have a budget of approximately $20M per year, with 60 percent of the budget directed at vegetation management projects, evaluation route clearing/system improvements, grants, public education, and fire detection.

Panorama was selected to assist the newly formed MWPA with the environmental planning and compliance associated with the implementation of their programs related to wildland fire prevention. Panorama’s role has been dynamic and encompassing many aspects of project definition, environmental review including under the VTP EIR and on federal land, community and agency outreach, tribal outreach, and implementation. Panorama is creating and maintaining a comprehensive manual to document the processes for the MWPA. Approximately 26 projects have required environmental review for the first Work Plan. Projects have required coordination with various other entities such as County Open Space, National Parks  Service, and State Parks,.as well as the Local Coastal Program with Marin County and the California Coastal Commission.
