Panorama’s Sheila Hoyer On-Site at Salt Creek Substation

image1Panorama’s Senior Environmental Scientist Sheila Hoyer is now conducting on-site monitoring during construction of San Diego Gas and Electric’s (SDG&E’s) Salt Creek Substation. The project is located in Chula Vista, California in southwestern San Diego County.

Panorama prepared the Environmental Impact Report for the project. Several alternatives were considered, and in May 2016, the California Public Utilities Commission granted SDG&E a permit to construct Alternative 2, the environmentally superior alternative. Alternative 2 includes:

  • A 69/12-kilovolt (kV) substation at the Salt Creek Substation site (shown here)
  • An underground loop-in to connect an existing 69-kV power line to the substation
  • Additional energy generation at the existing CalPeak Power – Border Electric Generating Facility and the Larkspur Energy Facility during periods of peak demand for electricity

Alternative 2 eliminated the need to build a new 5-mile-long 69-kV power line through Chula Vista. More information about the project can be found at the CPUC Salt Creek Substation Project website.
